Commercial for World2Skate

World2Skate is an app designed for skaters who want to find the perfect skate spots — no matter where they are.

Developed by Markus Wildzeiss and supported by tunnel23, the idea for a promotional video was born over a relaxed after-work beer on a summer evening. During an initial brainstorming session, we quickly agreed that the skate spot itself should be the core focus of the video. The key message: every ride on a skateboard is a journey. And wherever you go – as the brand's tagline says – with World2Skate: FIND YOUR SPOT.

The Concept

Packing multiple locations into a 30-second spot is no easy feat. So we focused on a single skater (Philipp Pichler) and a single trick that could be consistently repeated and precisely executed: the kickflip.

Before filming, we branded several blank wood skateboards. What seemed like a simple task turned out to be surprisingly tricky — it was hard to find a print shop in Vienna willing to work with such small quantities. Eventually, we teamed up with FA Fotoevent, one of our long-standing partners. After testing a few approaches, we decided on a vinyl wrap solution.

Visual Style & Camera Setup

We collaborated with Benjamin Paya — one of the best cinematographers in Vienna (if not the entire world 😉) — to define the visual concept. Since a traditional slider was too short for the movement we envisioned, we built a custom ladder dolly to achieve longer tracking shots.

The Shoot

After a short delay due to an injury, filming began on October 2nd at 7:30 AM.

Following two test days, we brought in Philipp and the freshly branded boards and started filming.
The shoot was done with a RED Epic camera in 4K at 100fps. Under strictly controlled conditions (distance, camera height, focal length, dolly speed, etc.), we captured multiple takes of the same trick — a kickflip — at various locations. These were later edited into a seamless sequence.

For the opening scene, the traditional Viennese Heuriger Fuhrgassl-Huber generously provided full access to their guest area. Huge thanks again for the support!
Time was tight: to avoid disrupting their daily operations, we had to wrap up all exterior shots between 8:00 AM and noon on a Sunday. At exactly 11:45 AM, the last case was packed and we officially wrapped the shoot just before the venue opened its doors.

Behind the Scenes

Behind-the-scenes photos were captured by Ingo Karnicnik — big thanks for that as well!
